Capital Park

Over time, this urban neighborhood park in downtown Juneau saw a significant increase in use, leading to slow deterioration. Beyond its traditional users, the park was being used in new ways by new groups, creating conflicts amongst users. Corvus Design led a public-driven design process to re-evaluate needs for the park, understand how it might be renovated to serve the community better, and create a public park that is ‘inclusive’ rather than ‘exclusive.’ The process included numerous public workshops and design charrettes to develop a new master plan that met the needs of the various users, minimizes maintenance, and reflects the rich historic character of the site and neighborhood.
