Mendenhall Valley Public Library

The Juneau Public Libraries are a department of the City and Borough of Juneau and have three library locations. Located in the Dimond Park civic campus, the new 20,000 square foot Mendenhall Valley facility serves as this campus's gateway and focal point. The minimalist modern building design is anchored around a central 'view garden' and brings the natural landscape into the facility with expansive windows opening onto the garden. The landscape design reflects local geological features, including glacial eskers and boulder fields, surrounded by a rich native landscape. The entry of the building sits within a large covered plaza providing a formal procession into the library. The perimeter landscape includes a trail link, street trees to unify the campus, and simple foundation plantings to integrate the clean building forms with the site.
