Takatz Scenery Assessment
|Client:||City and Borough of Sitka|
|Components:||Environmental Assessmet and Permitting, Graphic Design, Scenery Resource Asessment|
The City and Borough of Sitka currently holds a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Preliminary Permit for the Takatz Lake Hydroelectric project. A majority of the proposed hydroelectric facilities are located on Tongass National Forest lands administered by the USDA Forest Service. Corvus is one of many resource specialists who are evaluating the potential impacts of the project. Corvus is in the midst of inventorying, assessing and evaluating the impacts to scenery/aesthetics over a ten year period for this remote location. Analysis and impacts are being developed using the Forest Service’s Landscape Aesthetics, A Handbook for Scenery Management, GIS data and mapping, field inventories, and developing detailed three dimensional digital visual simulations to study the project impacts upon the landscape. These simulations will assist in the development of mitigation measures to minimize visual impacts and meet scenery requirements set forth by the Forest Service.
