Sitka Sound Science Center Signage

The Sitka Sound Science Center has a mission to increase understanding and awareness of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of the Gulf of Alaska through education and research. Corvus Design provided environmental and interpretive design services for the Science Center and salmon hatchery. Engineering improvements to the historic building and hatchery included stabilizing slopes, streambanks, and shorelines using rock fill. Corvus Design restored these areas by reintroducing native vegetation and streambank best management practices to recreate a natural riparian habitat to support the hatchery fish. The restoration work also provided opportunities for interpretation, and Corvus Design developed a series of interpretive panels to educate visitors about the hatchery, the fish, and the restored ecosystem.
