Katlian Bay Road

The Alaska Department of Transportation (ADOT) is proposing to extend Halibut Point Road nine miles from the Starrigaven Recreation Area to the head of Katlian Bay. This new remote road corridor transects a variety of land managed by the USDA Forest Service, Native Corporations, and the State of Alaska. As part of the permitting process, ADOTdeveloped an Environmental Assessment (EA) to determine the project impacts on USFS lands and to meet the Forest Plan requirements including scenery resources. Corvus Design provided the scenery resources component of the EA including the inventory, analysis, development of three-dimensional visual simulations, and defining mitigation measures to ensure the project meets the Scenic Integrity Objectives as set by the USDA Forest Service's Scenery Management System (SMS) and the Tongass Forest Plan. Corvus Design also provided recreation design, planning, and the design of day-use recreation areas, OHV facilities, trailheads, and scenic overlooks.
