Pacific High School

Pacific High School in Sitka offers an academic philosophy that is genuinely alternative, where learning is authentic, experiential, and place-based, emphasizing community and a culture of quality. The school is an important high school that provides educational opportunities, including a prominent local Alaskan Native student population. We offered site and landscape design services for the remodel of their school, including incorporating elements that reflect and enhance the cultural and educational curriculum of the school. These features include a garden with traditional healing plants, areas for food preparation, storytelling, and integration of Tlingit designs into paving patterns, benches, and other elements throughout the site. Site work included making the site accessible, parking layout, creating open space for the school, and general aesthetic improvements that reflect the school's history and culture.
